Renewable-only powered boat, the Energy Observer, begins round the world voyage

The Energy Observer, sponsored by Toyota, has begun its 6 year round the world voyage. It will use only solar, wind, and hydrogen power.

The trip will take 6 years because it will stop in 50 destinations around the world as an exhibit to the public. Part of the Energy Observer’s mission is to demonstrate the feasibility of hydrogen power.

The ship removes salt and ions from sea water and separates the water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen is stored for when it is needed as fuel. Solar and wind power supplement the power supply.
