Institution of Mechanical Engineers Recommends Hydrogen Storage in New Report

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has issued a new report. The report, titled “Energy From Gas: Taking a Whole System Approach”, encourages the government and industry to invest in hydrogen technology for storing energy.

The IME makes 3 key recommendations:

1) The UK Government should bring together nuclear, renewable, and gas to promote the use of hydrogen gas storage in heating, power generation, and heavy industry.

2) The UK Government should encourage 20% hydrogen usage in the gas distribution network by 2023.

3) The UK Government should study the long term sustainability of lithium ion batteries vs hydrogen fuel cells.
