World’s First Hydrogen Powered Street Sweeper
The panoply of hydrogen powered vehicles is ever growing! The latest is a world first – a street sweeper commissioned by the Aberdeen City Council in Scotland.See a short video here.
The street sweeper was originally a diesel-only vehicle but it has now been converted to run on both diesel and hydrogen.
This blog has noticed that Scotland appears to be making a fair push for hydrogen in 2018 and that the Orkney Islands are preparing to grow a strong hydrogen industry.
In general, Scotland is a world leader in renewable energy with 68.1% of its electricity coming from renewable sources last year.
Aberdeen’s new street sweeper is a welcome addition to Scotland’s great renewable success.
Keep an eye out for the next blog post which will explain a little how injecting hydrogen into the air/fuel mix of a diesel engine can help significantly lower its emissions.
