US Government prove that hydrogen fuel cells reduce energy use and emissions in shipping

This blog has commented before about the general push for renewable energy in Hawaii, and in the use of hydrogen for shipping.

The US Government has been busy – they believe that using hydrogen can help reduce emissions by 30% on ships travelling between Hawaii.

Often a ship’s engines must be kept running to power refrigerators carrying certain goods. It may prove advantageous to use hydrogen fuel cells instead.

In the shorter term perhaps it’s easier to adapt the refrigeration system on ships rather than simply wait for an entirely hydrogen-powered ship.
