In Japan, electric car charging sites surpass gas stations

In Japan there are now about 3,000 charging points (including private homes) with charging points for electric cars. This is more than the number of gas stations.

A regular follower of the news might get the sense that the departure from fossil fuels is beginning, and statistics like this should confirm it. Elsewhere, a record 46% of electricity in the UK was generated from renewable sources. That's a striking and surprising amount. Even more so, earlier this year Scotland generated enough electricity from only wind to power itself for an entire day.

The world may be changing faster than most people think.

A survey by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan revealed that there are more than 40,000 recharging points for electric cars across Japan, surpassing the 34,000 petrol stations scattered around the world’s third largest economy.
